Notes on finding, buying and living with art, from the gallery.
How to enjoy an art fair (and maybe buy something)
How to visit an art fair and enjoy it: pick one, go with a short list, ask at the booths, take notes, and what to ask for if you decide to buy.

An art fair is the one place where a hundred galleries bring their best work to the same building for a few days. It can be wonderful, and it can be a lot. Here is how to enjoy one.
Pick one, not all
The fair calendar we keep lists 230 fairs for 2026. Nobody needs that many. One good fair a year, in a city you like, teaches more than five rushed ones.
Go with a short list
Look at the exhibitor list before you go and mark ten galleries. See those first, while you are fresh. Then wander: the surprises are usually in the smaller booths.
At the booth
Ask. Galleries are there to talk, and "tell me about this artist" is always a good opening. Ask for the price, too. It is a normal question, and a fair is where prices are easiest to compare.
Take notes like a tourist
Photograph the work and its label together. By the evening you will not remember which blue painting was which.
If you want to buy
Sleep on it when you can. Many galleries will hold a work for a few hours or a day if you ask. When you decide, ask for the same things as anywhere else: the certificate, the invoice and the delivery cost in writing.
And if you buy nothing
That is a good fair too. You will have seen more art in an afternoon than in most months, and you will know a little better what you like. We show at fairs ourselves; our exhibitions page says where next.
If you would like company
This is what we do every day from Mexico City: help people find, buy and live with original contemporary art. Book a free 30-minute call, or simply look at the works available now.
